Week of 3/2/18

We have been noticing an increase of crows in our school yard. We have also been noticing more and more birds’ arriving in our area as the weather has been changing. Because of this, some lessons have been focused on Bird Watching/Observing.

We have a great pair of binoculars paired with a bird identification book and an observation journal. Children are able to sit in front of the large window in our classroom and observe the birds outside. They are able to try to identify them and jot down their experience in the observation journal.

This work offers a great chance to cross over content areas. It could cross to language and children could choose to write a poem about the bird they observed. It can cross over to art and they could create a beautiful picture of the bird. It could even cross over to math, children could create math story problems about the birds they see.

I look forward to the spring for many reasons; however, one main reason right now is so the children have more and more birds and animals to observe.

Also, as the weather changes, please make sure your child has a pair of indoor shoes at school.

Have a great weekend,

Ms. Sara, Ms. Danielle and Mr. Ben
