Montessori Radmoor

October is here.  I’d like to welcome Max and Antonio to our community. They both joined our classroom this month. We have been enjoying getting to know all of the new children and learning how to work together in the classroom. Both Chandrani and I have enjoyed getting to know Cheryl, our morning assistant, and Chante’, our afternoon assistant, in the toddler room.

We have enjoyed making lemon water with the children, which is a new work on the shelf and will be introducing banana slicing soon. The children share their work at snack time with the other children. Snack preparation is a big part of our toddler’s day.  Both of these activities play a part in helping the community. The children love Wednesday smoothie day. The children also help in washing, drying, and setting the table.

This year we will make soup every month to introduce the children to different vegetables.  The children can experience the vegetables raw and cooked. For the month of October we will be making vegetable soup. I will be asking a few parents to bring in a vegetable to add to our soup. In November, we will be making a soup that involves squash. I really love to introduce the children to all different types of squash so I’ll be asking for those in November. I’m excited about this project and can’t wait to see how our first soup turns out.

At school, we are trying to cut back on so many carbohydrates so, when you’re our snack person you will notice fewer crackers or cereal.   We have noticed most children tend to fill up on crackers even though they like fruit and vegetables. When we don’t serve the carbs the children tend to eat healthier. We will still have grains and the occasional muffin and the children will still get a chance to bake.  We are also hoping it helps the children who stay for lunch to eat more of their lunch instead of filling up on cereal. So, if there is a certain fruit of vegetable that your child really likes, please let us know.

Just a quick reminder. Label, label, label. Children are coming in with new clothes switching over from summer to fall clothes. Please remember to label them. We are changing a lot of clothes while toilet training. It can be quite hard to keep track if the clothes aren’t labelled. Thank You!

Also, check the bulletin board. We will be having a potluck soon. The date is yet to be announced.

Sincerely,

Kristy
