Montessori Radmoor

Hi Toddler families!  Time has flown. I can’t believe we are already half way through this school year. I am happy to announce that Kennedy is graduating from the toddler room and moving on to the primary class and joining P3, Ms. Trish’s class. We wish her the best and will surely miss the “big sister” of our class.

I’d like to share with you the recipe for one of our most favorite activities on our class. This is our homemade playdo recipe. Is a great squishy, nontoxic recipe that has a great smell and color. Not only is it a lot of fun to play with, it’s a lot of fun to make. It’s great for those cold days when we are stuck inside.  The ingredients needed are:

1 and 1/4 cup of flour

1/4 cup of salt

1 and 1/2 tablespoon of oil

1 package of unsweetened kool aid

1 cup of boiling water

With your toddler mix all the dry ingredients in a large bowl. Then add oil. Then the adult can pour in the hot water and mix until its cool enough for the child to help mix and knead the dough. Refrigerate in a sealed container. Some fun things to point out are how the color changes when you mix in the water. Show your child the steam coming from the water. And of course feeling the dough is always fun.  If at first the dough seems too sticky, add small amounts of water until it is no longer sticky.

I hope you try making this with your child. It’s a lot of fun!

Sincerely,

Erin
